The John Player Special was a limited-run cafe-racer styling of the Commando 850, finished in the colours of the John Player Norton racing team. It added a fibreglass fairing and a tank-and-seat canopy over a steel tank, but the engine was unchanged. Testers found it a standard Commando in racing dress at a noticeably higher price.
