The HPE (High Performance Engine) generation replaced the old Master 400 with a new short-stroke 399 cc single that is Euro 5 compliant, with a belt final drive and dry-sump lubrication. It also brought traction control, a new frame and larger 13-inch front wheels. It is the more modern, slightly stronger successor to the earlier 400 MP3.
