The first-generation DL650 V-Strom, a middleweight adventure-touring bike built on the SV650 V-twin with a twin-spar aluminium frame. Reviewers of the period praised its smooth, broad power and highway comfort and its fuel range, but noted a firm seat and limited off-road suspension travel. It was pitched as sitting between lightweight dual-sport bikes and large adventure machines.
