By 1994 the DR650 R/S was in its later first-generation form: kick-start, 640 cc air/oil-cooled single, 17-litre tank and coil-sprung telescopic fork. The chassis and dimensions match the 1992-93 bike. It remained a dual-sport aimed at both trail and road use until the switch to the DR650SE in 1996.
