The RS was the lighter, road-biased sibling of the 1990 DR650 launch pair, sharing the same 640 cc air/oil-cooled single and chassis as the R/S. It was distinguished by a smaller exhaust system and a more street-oriented feel than the Djebel-style R/S. Like its sibling it had a kick starter and a 21-litre tank.
