The DR-Z 400S street-legal dual-sport in its 2002-2003 form, with the 398 cc liquid-cooled, dry-sump four-valve single and five-speed gearbox of the range. Its electric start is a convenience over kick-starting, and the review praised the smooth, flexible power and the light, quick-steering trail handling. The disc brakes gave good feel and resisted fade, while the high seat was noted as awkward for shorter riders.
