The DR-Z 400S dual-sport in its 2004-2005 form, with the same 398 cc single, five-speed gearbox and chassis as the earlier models. The review found the engine strong and smooth with little vibration, and the suspension well controlled and adjustable, though stiffer street settings felt twitchy. The disc brakes gave good feel without fade, and the LCD instrument panel and switchgear were described as modern and well made.
