The GS550 arrived in 1977 as the smaller sibling of the GS750 and GS1000, a conventional air-cooled DOHC four with two valves per cylinder and points ignition. It was reliable and good value, praised for chassis stiffness, but vibrated at higher revs and had a stiff new gearbox.
