The original naked Bandit 1200 took the big air/oil-cooled four from the GSX-R1100 line, bored out and retuned for mid-range torque, and dropped it into a plain steel-tube frame with parts from other Suzukis. It undercut rivals on price and was easy to live with, so it sold strongly to commuters, weekend riders and stunt riders. Handling was ordinary but the engine was tough and torquey.
