The GS/GSX1100ES was the sportier half-faired version of the 1074 cc 16-valve four, with low bars on the top yoke, normal footpegs, a tubular subframe and plastic bodywork. Cycle World's test managed a quarter-mile near 11 s, rare for a standard street bike then, and praised the smooth, strong mid-range. It was less agile than rivals and the anti-dive and brakes felt mushy.
