The small-fairing GSX400S carried on after the plain E left most markets in 1984, running to about 1986 with the same air-cooled twin. A period Canadian test found it a friendly learner and commuter bike with smooth, responsive power, but criticised soft rear damping, high-speed stability, narrow tyres and a mushy anti-dive front brake. This version also lists narrower tyres than the early S.
