A ground-up redesign of the GSX-R1000 with a new, shorter engine of 74.5 x 57.3 mm, a more compact twin-spar frame, a shorter wheelbase and longer swingarm. It brought Showa Big Piston forks, an electronically controlled steering damper and three selectable power maps, giving a lighter, sharper superbike than the 2008 model. Source page is inconsistent on the clutch (listed hydraulic, text says cable), so it is given generically.
