The 1991 M brought enclosed twin headlights, revised steering geometry, 17-inch radial tyres and larger 40 mm carburettors, with peak power unchanged. Its adjustable suspension and strong mid-range made it a popular base for open-class racing, though testers found it less stable than the Yamaha FZR1000.
