The first water-cooled GSX-R1100, with a shorter-stroke 1074 cc engine, higher compression and a new pentagonal aluminium frame with upside-down forks and six-piston front calipers. It was faster and more stable than the oil-cooled bikes but noticeably heavier, which hurt it at low speed.
