The 1988 "Slingshot" was a near-total redesign with a short-stroke engine, bigger valves, 36 mm carburettors and 17 inch wheels. A stiffer aluminium frame and lower-drag fairing made it the most compact bike in its class. It was quicker and sharper than the earlier 18 inch models but very focused and demanding to ride.
