The 1990 L model reverted to the long-stroke 749 cc engine and was the first with upside-down forks on the GSX-R. It got a wider, stiffer frame, bigger rear wheel, 38 mm carburettors and a new 4-into-1 exhaust. It was heavier than before but offered better handling and braking.
