The GT500 was the long-running Suzuki 500 twin (the old T500) updated for the mid-1970s with a bigger tank, electronic ignition and a front disc brake. It remained an easy-going, economical and reliable two-stroke roadster, if somewhat smoky and vibrating at higher revs. A magazine comparison at the time rated it good value against rivals such as the Honda CB500T.
