The GT550J was the first model of Suzuki's mid-size air-cooled three-cylinder two-stroke, known as the Indy in America. It used a Ram Air shroud over the cylinder head and a drum front brake with four leading shoes. The engine was smooth with strong midrange, though the chassis and brakes were considered its weak points.
