The RGV250 replaced the parallel-twin RG250 Gamma with a 90-degree V-twin two-stroke in an aluminium twin-spar frame, with a 17-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel, in the style of the Grand Prix bikes. The 1989 model was a carry-over of the VJ21; contemporary press praised its wide power spread and handling but criticised a clunky gearbox and hard riding position.
