The 2002 redesign gave the Speed Triple a revised 955 cc engine making about 120 hp, a lighter and shorter chassis with steeper steering geometry, a raised rear end, a lighter front wheel, and new bodywork with twin close-set headlights and digital instruments. Reviewers praised its midrange punch and agility, but criticised poor low-rpm fuelling and a tiring riding position on long runs.
