The R5 350 was Yamaha's top two-stroke road bike of the early 1970s, an air-cooled piston-port parallel twin with a five-speed box and drum brakes. Its 36 hp matched the previous year's twin, but it pulled more strongly low down, giving usable power from around 3,000 rpm. It was the forerunner of the RD350. The 1972 R5-C ran a lower compression ratio and revised gearing compared with the earlier two years.
