The 1996 to 1998 XJR1200 continued the original formula of an air-cooled 1188 cc four tuned for torque, twin Ohlins-branded rear shocks and a simple steel frame. It was replaced by the larger-bore XJR1300 for 1999. The riding position is upright and the weight bias is toward the rear.
