A cruiser-style Maxim variant of Yamaha's new 1982 DOHC 400 twin, with a mono-shock rear end, a 19 inch front wheel and a small 16 inch rear. It brought a livelier 45 hp engine than the older SOHC XS 400 and a spine frame using the engine as a stressed member.
