The XT 600 replaced the 550 with a 595 cc air/oil-cooled four-valve single, dry-sump lubricated and with a front disc brake. A street/trail bike with YZ-inspired styling, it was smooth and strong in the midrange but geared tall for tight trails. It competed with Honda's XL600R and Kawasaki's KLR600. The 1985 model is unchanged in the published figures.
