The XT600E, introduced in 1990, was Yamaha's lower, easier trail-bike take on the 595 cc air-cooled single: electric start, a low seat for the class and a dry-sump four-valve engine. It is a simple, durable dual-purpose machine that suits commuting as well as gravel tracks, though its soft suspension and modest tank limit serious off-road or long-distance use. The first-generation bike also had a kick-start sister model, the XT600K.
