The 2000 Thunderace carries on unchanged in the figures given, a 1002 cc five-valve four making a claimed 145 hp in an aluminium twin-spar frame. It sat in Yamaha's range next to the R1 as a calmer, more road-friendly big sportbike. Strengths were midrange torque, stability and brakes; weaknesses were mirror vibration and consumption at speed.
